The power of RAW
Friday, February 19, 2010 at 08:19PM Here is an unprocessed Raw Canon file that's at least 5 stops underexposed.

Here is the same file, processed in Light Room 2.

Yeah there's a lot of noise but look at the above frame. It's black. Yet amazingly there's enough information for the software to put together a halfway decent image. Frankly, I'm a little surprised. I understand very well how raw sensor data works but the technology still never ceases to amaze me. Raster video is great and has it's uses but I think the future of digital imaging is no doubt RAW.

very cool. I cant believe that came from that shot.
Just got the 7D a few weeks ago so just starting to f with it and ergonomically its terrible!... need a rig again... i guess.
You can try my Zacuto anytime. I have some RED and 7D side by sides I'd like to do at some point. Let's set something up.
Also, after using the MkII and 7D together, I've got to say - the quality of the 7D's video isn't nearly as impressive. It's noisier and more prone to artifacts/aliasing. I think it's possible to get awesome video out of the 7D but you've got to work a little harder at it.
There's definitely a learning curve with these damn cameras! The more I shoot with the 7D, the more I wish I had a 5D.
just saying...
